A Note from the Coach 10/12/08

I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And what I can do I will do for good of the team.

We are down to the last week. It seems like only yesterday we were on the lower grass practice field working out in 90 degree heat. Wind sprints, X drills, and laps around that rough ground have given way to “FULL FIELD SUICIDES” and practice on the turf. I have to say the conditioning has paid off. We have been stronger than ANY other team in the fourth quarter to date. Our team has worked as hard as any other we have coached. They are a group that is eager to learn more and improve no matter how well they already perform. These young men embody the word TEAM. They are unselfish and willing to be just a cog in the wheel to help the TEAM be successful. Our journey is not complete. We still have two games to play. We travel to Lebanon this Wednesday and have Centerville at home this Thursday. Both revenge games as Lebanon tied us last year and Centerville reserves beat us earlier in the season. We cannot do it alone!!! WE NEED THE HELP OF ALL OUR FANS AT BOTH GAMES. Please join us in Lebanon this Wednesday and make some noise as I know the Lebanon fans will be very loud and enthusiastic (in their own way). We need to have a big crowd to counter the Warrior noise. Bring your favorite cheers and bells. It’s going to be a great game as always. Please join us at the Centerville game 5:30 Thursday as we need to show we belong with the “Big Boys” both on the field and in the stands.

When you look at the stats for the Miamisburg game you may notice we did not show huge offensive numbers. Keep in mind we never had to travel very far to score. Our defense kept Miamisburg off balance the entire game. When you hold a team to (-70) yards total offense it means you dominated in every area. Miamisburg ran 12 running plays in the second half and 10 of those were for negative yardage. One was for 2 yards and the other for no gain. AWESOME!!! OOOOOOOO RAAAAAHHH.

The recaps….
Wednesday Miamisburg GAME BY THE NUMBERS:

Springboro 29 Miamisburg 0

Springboro:
16 rushes for 52 yards 2 TDs
7-11 passing for 91Yards and 1 Int
We also had a TD on an Punt return
Miamisburg:
22 rushes (-92) yards
1-1 passing for 22 yards

Our reserve game was impressive as the Lebanon reserves beat this Panther team last year 29-6. We were in a revenge affair and prevailed once again. Our offense showed great balance and kept Lebanon guessing. The defensive unit held the Warriors to (-16) yards rushing and only 1 first down for the game!!! The defense recorded another shutout as the lone Lebanon score was on an interception return. GIVE YOURSELVES TWO!!!

Thursday (Reserve) Lebanon GAME BY THE NUMBERS:
Springboro 21 Lebanon 7

Springboro:
30 rushes for 112 yards and 1 TD
6-12 Passing 81 yards and 1 TD and 2 Interceptions
We had a defensive TD on an interception return
Lebanon:
19 rushes for (-16) yards
7-14 passing 47 yards and 3 Interceptions
Lone score was on an interception return late in the game.
NOTE: we held Lebanon to 1 first down for the game!!!

SCOUTING REPORT
Next up is Lebanon Wednesday and Centerville Reserve Thursday.
We already know what Centerville brings as we played them back on 9/11. The Elks have a crushing running game and stiff defense. We will need to cut down on our mistakes to win this tough GWOC contest. We have improved immensely since that game over 1 month ago. I look for a great game to end this fantastic season.

Lebanon will be a challenge. Last year this game ended in a tie. We will travel to this land of hostile Warriors once again. Lebanon will have a very loud and “enthusiastic” crowd. This is a huge game for them. They are 3-3 and risk a losing season if they lose. Beating us puts them at 4-3 makes their year and gives them bragging rights for a whole year.
The Warriors play very tough at home. They have a very talented quarterback that is capable of hurting us from any point on the field. The Warriors also have a very strong running back able to break tackles and go the distance given just a crack to work with. They have two talented large receivers that will challenge us outside and stretch us down the field. They catch very well and run even better. They will probably show us a 3-3 stack defense with very active linebackers that like to blitz and hunt down the ball behind the line of scrimmage. We will need to avoid penalties, keep our composure, and establish a running game be in position to win in the second half. I hope all of you can attend as well as anyone else you might bring to counter this loud opposing crowd and help us overcome this very determined opponent.
